What makes a confined space
A confined space is large enough to enter and perform work, has limited means of entry or exit, and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Add a hazard, and it becomes a permit-required confined space.
Oxygen deficiency or enrichment
Toxic gases, vapors, or fumes
Flammable or explosive atmospheres
Engulfment by loose granular material or liquids
Mechanical, electrical, or thermal hazards
Limited entry/egress and restricted movement
